Electric RTG cranes and electric terminal trucks are powering zero-emission operations in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire since 2022 and in Tema, Ghana starting 2026.
Meridian Port Services (MPS) Terminal 3 at Tema Port is a strategic partnership between Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, APM Terminals, and Africa Global Logistics. As part of its expansion, 16 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes and 20 electric terminal trucks have started operations. The terminal expansion continues with 41 electric terminal trucks arriving mid-2026, proving electrification is scalable. Rooftop solar will be installed to power buildings and eventually operations. At Côte d'Ivoire Terminal in the Port of Abidjan, 13 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes and 36 electric terminal trucks were inaugurated in 2022 to increase the port's capacity by 1.5m TEU per year. The terminal is a public-private partnership between the Ivorian State, Bolloré Africa Logistics and APM Terminals. Both terminals received the Green Terminal label for leading the decarbonisation of West Africa ports.
